ABOUT
WENDY BERNERO
Three decades of helping law firms create greater value.
Wendy Bernero is a value delivery strategist, executive consultant, and former chief marketing and strategy officer who has spent more than three decades helping the world’s most successful law firms deliver greater client value and generate profitable revenue.
In The Partner Paradox: What High-Performing Lawyers Do Differently, Wendy translates those decades into a parable any busy lawyer can finish in a weekend. The book introduces her Diagnose-Design-Deploy method through the eyes of Andrew Thompson, a newly promoted litigation partner with seven business days to show one of his firm's most important clients how the firm can deliver more value to their business. Readers learn alongside Andrew how to understand a client's business deeply, collaborate with colleagues across the firm and build relationships where clients feel truly understood.
Wendy has held senior leadership roles including Chief Marketing Officer of Baker McKenzie, Paul Weiss, and Fried Frank, and Chief Strategy Officer at Proskauer Rose. Earlier in her career, she was a Director and Senior Consultant at Hildebrandt International. Through her advisory practice, Yate Collaborative, Wendy and her team works directly with managing partners and practice group leaders at Am Law 100 and Am Law 200 firms, as well as the senior marketing and business development professionals who support them. She is co-author of Driving Profitability and Market Position and a contributor to numerous legal and business publications.
A frequent conference speaker, Wendy is a Fellow of the College of Law Practice Management and a member of Chief, the private network for senior women executives. She works with clients across the United States and resides in the New York City area.
Where Experience Becomes Action
Through her advisory practice, Yate Collaborative, Wendy works with law firm leaders to identify high-value opportunities, strengthen client relationships, and turn strategy into profitable growth.
The Partner Paradox grew directly from that work. It distills decades of experience into a practical story about what happens after a lawyer makes partner—and why legal excellence alone is no longer enough. Through Andrew Thompson’s journey, Wendy introduces her Diagnose-Design-Deploy method and shows lawyers how to understand their clients more deeply, collaborate across their firms, and deliver value that clients can see and feel.
The book is an extension of the work Wendy has been doing throughout her career: helping lawyers move from being excellent legal practitioners to becoming trusted business partners.
